Egmont Canteen & Social Areas

In collaboration with Arkitema & Barbara Bendix Becker

The ambition was to create a cohesive and inspiring environment that supports creativity and encourages interaction across departments. Through the introduction of informal meeting hubs, lounge areas, and a flexible event space for book launches, the 7th floor was transformed into a multifunctional destination. It functions as an inviting place for dining, an ideal setting for meetings, and an open, collaborative space for coffee breaks and informal exchanges.

The colour concept is drawn directly from the surroundings. The verdigris copper roof, classic red tiles, and the ever-changing seasonal skies quickly became the foundation of the 7th floor’s palette, grounding the interior in its architectural and urban context.

By optimizing the kitchen’s flow and access, we designed a canteen that meets both functional and spatial requirements. The space accommodates up to 450 people and is carefully designed to accommodate the 2.5-hour lunch service. The seating layout is designed to encourage social interaction, creating an environment that invites colleagues to gather and linger throughout the day.

A 17-meter-long shelving system serves multiple purposes: providing essential storage for dinnerware, glassware, and cutlery, while also acting as a display for the kitchen’s homemade garnishes and a curated exhibition of cookbooks published by Egmont.

The lounge area is organized into a variety of meeting settings, allowing different activities to take place simultaneously without disruption. Intimate zones support quiet reflection, focused business meetings, and engaging conversations.

In collaboration with textile designer Barbara Bendix Becker, a bespoke upholstery palette was developed for the furniture. Graduating from dusty blue tones to warmer reds, the colours are inspired by the sky, surrounding rooftops, and façades—elements that frame the remarkable views from the 7th floor.
